Picture on left shows inside the basecamp at Dak To-Christmas
Day 1969. In the foreground are rolls of consentina wire, which
was stretched out around the perimeter of the camp.
The
picture to the right, taken about the same time, shows the
effect of the monsoon rains.
While in Dak To, the motor pool for the 538th LCC was right next
to the fuel depot, where the helicopters fueled up. When the
Cobras came in they were in a "stacked formation", one slightly
higher than the other. Once fueled, they would fly off, and the
next would come in.
These pictures were taken of a Cobra that got too close to the
one ahead of him.
The wreckage was eventually taken off by a Huey helicopter. |
